15 Weeks- The Apple

We made it to 15 weeks this past Thursday and now the baby is the size of an apple. I am hoping it is the size of a big apple :-) We lost power Thursday night and it is now Sunday and we are still without power. Thursday night NH got hit with a huge windstorm that caused NH to go into a state of Emergency. Luckily, my mom has a generator and we have been staying at her house. We are hoping for power to be restored today! Wish us luck.
What is new with Baby Yu? The morning sickness was pretty horrible this week. I thought that it was getting better, but I can't seem to shake it. I've tried to shake up my routine, but nothing seems to work.
I'm just hoping that I am not one of those poor women that have morning sickness their entire pregnancy. I'm crossing my fingers (baby cross yours too) !!!
Since we did not have power, we we did a little baby shopping. We bought our first outfits for baby. Look at this??!! Adorable! "My Daddy Loves Me" Constant was the proudest dad!!

Week 14- Houston We have a Heart Beat :-)

Today I went to the Midwife (MW) and finally heard the little beans Heart Beat (HB) on the Doppler. The HB was 158 and we couldn't have been more excited. I cried. Constant smiled. What an amazing feeling to hear your child's HB for the first time.  I am 14 weeks tomorrow and believe me it was worth the wait.

13 Weeks- The Peach

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Chinese New Year!! 

This week I turned 13 weeks...wow, this pregnancy is cruising :-) I hope you can hear the sarcasm in my writing.  I feel that my morning sickness is slowly letting up...but is still there. I have been really tired still and have no energy whatsoever. I can't wait for winter to be over. I keep dreaming of a vacation--anywhere! 

This weekend we spent our time on the couch taking in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Go Team USA!!! 

We are starting to seriously think about names, baby furniture and how we are going to decorate the nursery. A little overwhelming all around. I can't believe how many details you have to work out prior to the baby coming. I can only imagine what it is like to have a little one around. 

12 Weeks

I've finally hit the 12 week mark while I was in Japan this past week.  Baby Yu is 2.5 inches long and is about the size of a plum. I can tell that the baby is growing b/c my pants are also getting tight. :-)

Let me tell you, traveling as far as Japan is not something you want to do during your pregnancy. Unfortunately, giving that I have not shared my news with work yet, I really didn't have a choice. Between the Jet lag and normal pregnancy exhaustion, I was extremely tired and would not recommend a trek like this to any pregnant woman. I made my way home yesterday, but after 15 hours in a plane, I caught a cold or maybe even have the flu. Not fun, not fun.
So besides being struck with a cold, exhausted and having an occasional bought of Morning Sickness. I feel pretty normal. Still in the pregnancy disbelief mode.

My next prenatal apt is on the 17th and I can't wait. I will be 14 weeks and my midwife advised me that I should be able to hear the HB with the use of a Doppler.

Week 9- The Grape

1/19/09- Here is a picture of my little Grape :-) A couple days shy of 10 weeks....go ME!!! Tomorrow is my first apt with my midwife and I can not wait!! Stay Tuned

The Midwife Decision

The decision to choose a midwife was almost a no brainer for us. After we decided that we were ready to bring a child into the world, we immediately scoured the internet and book stores for books on birthing options. Everything that we read pointed us in the direction of a non traditional "American" birthing option--which is to have Baby Yu in a birthing center under the care and supervision of a Midwife.
I have to admit, even though I know this is the right choice for me and Baby it is a little difficult to follow a non conventional choice in this world of technology advancement and 3D & 4D Ultrasounds. Like many other new mothers, I immediately joined babycenter.com--August 2010 Expectant Moms Group to be exact. So many other woman that are due in August have already had their first prenatal visit, ultrasounds, etc, etc. I've met with my midwife, but will have my first prenatal visit this week--January 20th which will put me at 9 weeks, 6 days preggo....

So, why a midwife really? This may come off very bold, but I am not a "take a number" kind of person and really do expect personalized care during my pregnancy. I really do expect that my "catcher" be with me during the entire labor and not just at the end to literally catch the baby and collect the fat paycheck. I really do expect my care provider to get to know me over the course of the pregnancy. From what I've been told, labor is not easy, but I believe that I can have a better birth and pregnancy under the care of a midwife. I also don't agree with all of the non sensical pregnancy testing that traditional Doctors push. Honestly, if you know that you would not terminate the pregnancy, what do you plan on doing with the information??? Worry a little more than you already are over nothing you can control??

So...after some extensive research...we've decided to have Baby Yu at the Coastal Family Birth Retreat under the care of Midwife Valerie Jacques.

From Purple Shoes to Journey of Baby Yu

By the title of this post, I have no doubt that the reason for the title of the Blog change is obvious. So, it's true, we are pregnant and expecting our bundle of Joy August 18th, 2010! We found out the wonderful news on December 18th. After nearly six months of trying, I have to admit, seeing those two little lines on the pregnancy test was one of the most wonderful moments of my life. December 18th was a Friday and I was up early that morning to pee. I decided to take a pregnancy test b/c I was about a week late for the ole period and was going to be going to a Christmas party that evening. After months of trying, many tears along with many negative pregnancy tests I really did not think I was pregnant, but wanted to be sure as I knew I would be having a few alcoholic beverages that evening. By now you know the outcome--the test was positive and my journey of motherhood has officially begun.

My hope of this blog is to share my pregnancy experiences, pictures of my growing belly and my experiences with using a non traditional birthing method--a midwife.

The dates of these new posts entries and actual post dates will be different as we are not ready to share the news with the world yet.
